Are You A Candidate For Second Chance Checking?

If you've had financial problems in the past and have been banned from having a checking account, you may be able to have a second chance at one. In fact, these types of accounts are called "second chance" checking accounts. If you've been reported to TeleCheck or ChexSystems, you are indeed banned from having a regular checking account. However, second chance checking account can get you back up and running and into a regular checking account at some point once again.

The information given to Telecheck or ChexSystems will stay on their records for about five years, on average. A second chance checking account will give you an opportunity to establish yourself as fiscally responsible, even if you cannot open a regular checking account.

Banks know that there are a lot of people out there who cannot open a checking account but have the responsibility to manage their money responsibly enough to have a checking account ? this has led to many banks offering second chance checking accounts.

If you're in the market for a second chance checking account, take a look around at your local banks and see if any of them offer one. You should also check and make sure what type of fee, if any, they charge to do so. Many will charge up to $300 to approve this type of checking account. With competition growing, it's likely that you can get one for less than that, but again, check around to see what your area offers.

Despite these fees, a second chance checking account offers all of the same benefits of a regular checking account. There will be an account number and routing number so you can use direct deposit. You can generally also receive a MasterCard or Visa debit card which you can use at ATMs as well.

If you just want a debit card and not a checking account, your setup will include a voided check so that your paychecks can be deposited directly to the account. You won't have to have verification through ChexSystems or TeleCheck. And this is a regular debit card and not a prepaid card as some have talked about.

Paying all of your bills can be a real hassle. A second chance checking account will give you the ability to pay your bills by automatic deduction, by check or even online! Banks are starting to understand that there are a lot of people out there who could use a second chance. After all, many of us don't really all of the responsibilities involved with having a checking account when we first open one. And of course, a lot of us are unaware of how many difficulties that not having a checking account can create.

In addition, if you don't have a checking account, it can be impossible to bank online. And in fact, many employers require that you have a bank account so that they can directly deposit paychecks instead of having to cut you a paper check. This makes it easier for you as an employee, and of course for them is the employer. It's less embarrassing, too. Of course, you can open a savings account and have your paycheck deposited that way, but that still leaves you the difficulty of having to withdraw money or pay bills by money order.

If you're ready for second chance checking, check around and see which of your local banks offer this service. Many more banks are jumping on the "second chance" checking bandwagon these days, because they realize so many customers are ready for a fresh start and a new chance. If this is you, go ahead and take your new chance today.
